(stupid posix. though at least one person on Android was pleased to see od,
so i guess it's not as dead as i'd assumed.)

hexdump -C had been the local favorite for years, but xxd's killer feature
is that it's reversible, for all your hex-editing-from-a-script needs. plus
--unlike hexdump and od -- the default output format is useful.
