Mirell got
https://github.com/landley/control-images/tree/master/images/gentoo-bootstrap to
build years ago, but then when I tried to do distro-agnostic builds under it I
hit the "every single ebuild lists every single supported architecture; adding a
new architecture to the portage tree means touching 95% of all ebuild files" and
what I was trying to do got really ugly and I switched focus to Fedora's...
kaiju was it? Ah:

  https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Koji

and THAT lasted until

  https://landley.net/notes-2016.html#02-04-2016

when I switched focus to trying to get debian to work, especially since

  http://landley.net/lxc/03-debian.html

was pretty easy to make work, although that's not a source build...

Anyway, Mirell and I unloaded the whole gentoo-bootstrap thing on Daniel Robbins
at two different coffeeshops (and in the lobby of his hotel), and he went
"hmmmm..." and went off to simplify his infrastructure, but all three of us
wandered off in different directions and I haven't spoken to either of them in
years.

Uh-huh.
