There's a ginormous presentation.pdf in the downloads directory, the raw
text of which is in presentation.html one level up, which tries to
explain the design I was going for.

I can give you the design rant if you like, but presumably reading that
would give it as well.  (And for all I remember it's in the FAQ. :)
